2017 BMW 2-Series M240i Review

This is the facelifted version of the BMW 2-Series coupe and convertible

The Coupé was originally launched in 2014, with the 2 Series Convertible following in early 2015, replacing the 1-series equivalents.


BMW’s entry-level four-seater gets refreshed looks at the front and rear, a revised interior and specification upgrades.


At the front, there are new LED headlights as standard, with the hallmark four corona ring LED daytime running lights while all models (except the M240i and M2) now get LED front fog lights as standard.


SE and Sport models get redesigned bumpers while the famous BMW kidney grille has been enlarged and features more chrome.


At the rear, the LED tail lights are redesigned while the Sport trim model gets a redesigned bumper featuring high-gloss black trim.


Across the range, there are new exterior colour options including Seaside Blue metallic, Sunset Orange metallic and Mediterranean Blue metallic. Sport and M Sport models get new alloy wheel options. Sport models gain the new double-spoke 17in light alloy wheels, burnished and finished in Orbit Grey. M Sport cars receive Ferric Grey double-spoke 18in M light-alloy wheels, which were previously a £175 option.

Inside, there’s a new instrument panel with M Sport and M240i models receiving a Black Optic display with 3D effect dials, there’s a cover for the cupholders and some decorative stitching on Sport and M Sport models.


Additional interior finishes have been added including Corner Sport cloth and Cognac Dakota leather upholstery.


The updated 2-Series also gets latest-generation iDrive software on the standard BMW Navigation and BMW Professional Navigation.


The Professional Navigation gets an 8.8in screen that now features BMW Touch Control for the first time, offering drivers the choice of iDrive with Touch pad, voice control and touchscreen to interact with the system.


Across the range is Servotronic steering and Active Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop&Go function.


There are four petrol and three diesel powertrains to choose from. All versions are rear-wheel drive while you can opt for all-wheel drive on the 220d xDrive only.


Most engines are fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, however, an eight-speed automatic is available across the range.

Diesel 218d, 220d, 220d xDrive (coupe only), 225d

Pick from three trim levels; SE, Sport and M Sport.


Prices for the updated 2-Series start from £24,300 for the Coupé 218i SE.
