Porsche confirmed the fourth model of the second-generation Panamera sports car, the E-Hybrid, will debut in Paris
The second-generation of the four-door Porsche Panamera will get an E-Hybrid version from April next year, with its world premiere set for this month’s Paris Motor Show.
It’ll be the fourth model in the new car’s line-up, joining the Panamera Turbo, 4S and 4S Diesel. It gets all-wheel drive and a purely electric range of 31 miles.
Powered by a 2.9-litre V6 biturbo petrol engine twinned with an electric motor, the power unit develops 456bhp and 516lb ft of torque, which is sent to the four corners of the car via an eight-speed PDK gearbox. It’ll return 283mpg and emit just 56g/km of CO2. The E-Hybrid will get from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and onto a top speed of 172mph.
The electric motor is fed by a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery which has an increased storage capacity of 14.1kWh, up from 9.4kWh in the last version and with no additional weight gain.
From start up, the Panamera E-Hybrid drives in purely E-Power electric mode to a maximum speed of 87mph, which also means that maximum torque is available immediately.
A full recharge with a 230-V, 10-A connection will take 5.8 hours although this can be reduced to 3.6 hours with an optional 7.2 kW on-board charger and a 230-V, 32-A connection.
There is a range of driving modes available, including Sport and Sport Plus for enhanced performance, while there are also specific hybrid modes such as E-Power, Hybrid Auto, E-Hold and E-Charge.
E-Hold stores battery power for use later and E-Charge is where the battery is charged by the petrol engine.
Two 7.0in screens either side of the analogue rev counter and features a power meter tailored to the hybrid, while the 12.3in touchscreen on the dash also features several hybrid-specific screens.
The Panamera E-Hybrid is now available to order throughout Europe with deliveries starting in mid-April 2017. Expect to pay around £85,000-90,000 (price in confirmed as Germany €107,553).
